Electric car charging: Good luck with that

CNN Money -- NEW YORK -- I sometimes get to borrow plug-in cars but, like many city dwellers, I don't have a place to plug one in at home. That means, if I want to drive on electricity farther than a full battery will take me, I have to rely on charging stations provided in some of New York City's parking garages.

If you live in a city and are thinking about making the leap to a fully electric car, I recommend carrying a large bottle of Tylenol in the center console because your headaches will be epic.

I've recently had two plug-in cars. The first was a Fisker Karma, a beautiful $100,000 performance-tuned car with 30-mile all-electric driving range, after which it ran on gasoline power. And thank goodness it could.

The second was a Mitsubishi (MMTOF) i-MiEv, an all-electric car with. . .

Just one of several issues out there with electric cars.
So just to charge the car you need an outlet (and one that is currently working), the ability to get to that outlet, make sure it is plugged in correctly (really, is it that hard?) the correct type of connector for the outlet, then you have to pay for it with an unknown (and possibly unreliable) billing service and some apparently crazy prices?

No thanks.

I hope obama does not read this as it will cause new floods with the tears for his pet project. That would be electric cars and the practicability be damned so long as he can say that he supported it and some morons think that it was a great big good thing.

The Won, with characteristic idiocy, couldn't be bothered to spend his 800 bill stimulus on beefing up the electricity distribution grid. This guarantees problems should electric cars ever take off i.e. the EPA dictates that only electric cars can be sold.

Once again, it's the lower classes helping the wealthy to be richer; car charging stations provided from taxpayer money off the backs of the workers for the wealthy. Nice Obama!

Wasn't no booming economy under Clinton nru. That's who along with Gingrich and Congress sold the public on shipping jobs out of the country. Economy started to die down in 1998, and by 1999 it was getting harder to find a decent job. Now, it's even worse since over 10 million jobs were shipped out, and Obama hasn't made it better.

I want a Rimac - electric cars are the future, no doubt about it. Who cares who is the president - not a one of them has done anything about what matters to me. Bush - high energy costs, Obama, high energy costs, Clinton - low energy costs, booming economy,....

The cars still cost us $49,000 more than selling price to produce and the really good chargers cost an additional $2,000.
